MONTOURSVILLE, PA—It is with great sadness that CRS Advanced Technology reports the passing of Arthur Brody, Chairman of the Board of CRS, Inc., on May 10, 2012.
Mr. Brody was a visionary, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. As a college student at Columbia University in 1939, he created a protective book cover using photographic film that became the very popular book jacket cover widely used throughout the library industry. In 1940, Arthur founded the Brodart Corporation, a major manufacturer and distributor of library and school supplies and equipment, including the plastic book jacket cover.
In 1992, Mr. Brody was a partner in the purchase, and became the Chairman of the Board of CRS, Inc., provider of the SubFinder automated absence management and substitute placement solution. Mr. Brody stayed very active in his role as Chairman of the Board with CRS even after officially retiring in 2004 after 65 years in the library industry.
In addition to being an accomplished entrepreneur, Mr. Brody generously contributed both his time and money to numerous local and national charities. Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Brody established several foundations, including the Sophie & Arthur Brody Foundation, and served on a number of civic and not-for-profit boards.
Arthur Brody leaves behind a lasting legacy and will be greatly missed.
